Kiln Art
Chester, Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia is very proud of award winning Kiln Art fused glass. Since the formation of the company in 2000 Sharon McNamara and Paul Palango have been awarded Best New Product at the New York Restaurant and Foodservices Show in 2002. In 2005 Sharon was honoured with the Deloitte Touche Award for best start-up business in Canada in the annual Royal Bank Women’s Entrepreneur Awards. The next year she was a regional finalist in the Ernst, Young Awards.
Sharon, a self-taught glass artist, has developed the business from its beginning in Ontario in 1989. Her first wholesale order was for 900 picture frames for Bowrings that had to be delivered in 6 weeks. She met Paul in 1997 and through their work together they have experimented with new techniques and have developed hundreds of new products. Their business operated out of their 1,800 square foot studio on their two acre property in Chester Basin, NS. until 2004 when they expanded their working space to 6000 square feet and 28 kilns. Their 3,000 square foot retail outlet in beautiful Chester , Chez Glass Lass, has become an attraction for both consumers and tourists from around the world. Their customer base reads like a who’s who of Canada and many other countries in the world.
